Siemens

Business Operations Intern

January - May 2022 • Milford, OH

What I liked

The fun challenge of being tested constantly and not being graded on something. It was a long process, but ultimately one of the most rewarding experiences. It was tough. However, I learned so many applicable skills that translate into the classroom and make them more interesting.

What I wish was different

I think there should be mandatory work life balance training, as I found myself extremely burnt out at points. The stress of "real life" can be unnerving at first, but consistency is key.

Advice

Nothing is permanent - Nothing is the end all be all. Just start - Sometimes, just starting on something that seems daunting can help so much In general, work is not always going full steam ahead, you need breaks, and don't feel pressured to be perfect on the first try. Ask questions too because there are so many good people out there who want you to succeed!

Procurement Assistant Intern

May - August 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I really enjoyed my experience because of the people I was working with. They were extremely helpful in helping me adjust to this virtual environment while also jumping straight into projects they were leading. I was able to learn a lot about the company as well as the supply chain for the rail industry. It was great to actually apply the ideas and topics I learned about in school.

What I wish was different

I wished that the internship was not virtual as I would have been able to talk to more people, work on more projects, and really connect with my co-workers. I was beginning to work on some interesting projects for which I ran out of time for so I do wish I was able to complete those projects.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share would be to ask as many questions as you have. Whether it is to get more information about a process/project or it is to talk to someone in a different department, the best way to succeed or actually get the full experience is to be curious and learn as much as you can.

Financial Leadership Development Program Intern

May - August 2017 • Alpharetta, GA

What I liked

New location, with stipend. Became proficient with excel and automation. Given ownership over my projects and challenging, value-add work.

What I wish was different

A better work culture for interns - had to work lots of overtime despite technically not being allowed to, just to finish projects assigned.

Advice

Meet with people outside of your immediate projects to learn more. Don't be afraid to voice your ideas as an intern - it's a perfect time to learn how receptive people are to your ideas and how you can articulate/plan them better moving forward. Internships provide a great low-risk environment for learning, which is hard to realize when you're in them but is ideal to take advantage of.

Design Engineering Intern

May 2016 • Florham Park, NJ

What I liked

Something that I really liked about working at Siemens is the overall supportive office environment. I was also able to receive real-time projects to work on during my internships which proved for great learning opportunities and experiences

What I wish was different

I wish that the company had offered a little bit more training with what they do. A lot of the intern position is trying to figure out a completely new industry using previous projects. However, this was quite the challenge that I enjoyed being able to overcome.

Advice

Talk to everyone and learn more about their experiences. Also don't be afraid to ask questions because all of the people working there want to help you succeed and will more than be happy to help.
