Spatial Epidemiologist

This full-time Spatial Epidemiologist (EPI2) is project-limited with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2026.

This role advances the Department of Health’s (DOH) mission to protect and improve public health in Washington State and supports the Office of Environmental Public Health Sciences (OEPHS) by ensuring environmental health programs and policies are grounded in sound science and align with the Healthy Environments for All (HEAL) Act.

 

Based in the Healthy Homes and Communities Section and reporting to the Epidemiology, Data, Systems, and Surveillance (EDSS) Unit Supervisor, this position is pivotal in reducing health disparities and enhancing health equity related to childhood lead exposure in Washington State. This Spatial Epidemiologist supports the Child Lead Prevention and Response (CLPR) Team by increasing provider awareness of lead risks and testing requirements for children enrolled in Medicaid and involves collaboration with CLPR staff, section epidemiologists, the Health Care Authority, local health jurisdictions, and other partners.

 

The main duties include conducting epidemiologic and spatial analyses to uncover and display lead exposure risks and their trends, developing performance indicators to ensure compliance with lead testing for Medicaid-enrolled children, and continuously updating lead risk factors on the Washington Tracking Network.

The duty station for this Spatial Epidemiologist (Non-Medical) is home-based. The incumbent may be located anywhere within the State of Washington in-person expectations are limited to occasional meetings that are scheduled in advance
