Content Design Intern (Summer 2023)

Team Description:
The Design System team is a cross-functional team of product designers, content designers, and engineers defining how to build Okta products including the Admin dashboard, End-User dashboard, and apps like Okta Verify and the Okta Sign In widget. Our goal is to empower teams by providing the tools and guidance they need to develop quality product experiences our customers will love with scale and speed. We also consult and collaborate with product teams to stress test our components and patterns and guide new contributions to our design system. We’re a collaborative, detail-oriented group dedicated to making the best experiences possible for our users. 

Location: Remote or In-Person

Position Description: 
The Content Design Intern will consider both the big picture and small details to research, write, and design content that helps people achieve their goals when they use Okta products. Day-to-day responsibilities will focus on creating content patterns and design system guidance that empowers designers to create clear, consistent, on-brand product content. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about specializing in content design and approaches work as a chance to learn, collaborate, and make decisions with thoughtful rationales. You will be given every opportunity to grow as a content designer and member of a design system team. 

In this role, you’ll:
  • Own at least one content design project from start to finish
  • Research, write, and edit design system content guidance for accuracy, clarity, and usability
  • Apply the Okta voice to create conversational, appropriate language 
  • Collaborate with other content and product designers to evaluate and design language that works with design components to create logical, clear experiences 
  • Participate in Design System team rituals, including weekly Craft sessions, Office Hours, reviews, and presentations

You’ll bring to the role:
  • Strong writing and editing skills 
  • Excellent communication skills and collaboration skills 
  • Some experience creating digital content
  • The qualities of a self-motivated, detail-oriented, team player
  • An interest in content design requirements such as accessibility, globalization, and inclusivity

Please note this isn’t a product design, marketing copywriting, or social media internship. 

Okta’s Intern Program
As an intern, you’ll do real work that matters. While you’re on board, you’ll work on meaningful projects and have an opportunity to see what working at Okta is all about. You’ll also have the support of your mentor and manager to help you develop new skills. 

Our interns have the opportunity to build a strong community - with their fellow interns, within their teams, and with the broader company. We want you to grow professionally and you’ll do that through participating in events like our Executive Speaker Series and Brown Bags. And of course, we want you to have fun too.

Interns may choose the format of their internship: either in-person at one of our Okta offices, or virtually. We give our interns the opportunity to choose the option that best suits their needs. 

We offer 12 week internships in the U.S. in the Summer.  

Education and Training: 
Currently pursuing or completing an undergraduate, graduate degree, or certificate with a content design or UX writing focus or significant coursework as part of a degree in Writing, English, Journalism, Communication, Information Design, or related field.
