Marketing Manager

Title: Marketing Manager
Reports to: Director of Development and Marketing
 
The Marketing Manager is responsible for supporting the Director of Resource Development & Marketing (DDM) in developing and implementing expert strategies and communications that result in the increased awareness and growth of United Way of Northern Utah. Some of the key roles of the Marketing Manager will be to assist in implementing and tracking marketing and advertising strategies, working with staff, organization-wide to develop effective communications and promotional materials, executing successful and intentional events that enhance the local brand and to assist in the creation of effective campaign communications that raise funds and awareness within the resource development department. This is a part-time position (up to 30 hours per week).
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
Marketing Materials and Strategies
●       Work with DDM to strategize and develop the organization’s annual marketing and communications plan. This strategy will involve different channels of engagement including the website, newsletter, social media, and direct mail.
●       Manage all elements that go with developing marketing assets for programs, initiatives, events, and campaigns from beginning to end.
●       Lead and develop the creation of marketing materials and collateral for all departments working with a graphic design vendor as needed.
●       Manage the United Way brand including logo usage and other trademarked materials across organization (ensure consistent, appropriate usage).
●       Manage quality control of all marketing and collateral materials, such as video production, annual report, pledge cards, brochures, etc.
●       Lead and develop in copy writing and editing of marketing materials..
 
Content Management



●     Drive the content management process, to include leading and defining the editorial calendar, creating quarterly messaging guides, and engaging internal stakeholders for strategy messaging and topics gathering.

●     Collaborate with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to build editorial strategies and create new pathways for the collection and promotion of content.

●     Maintain a story bank by capturing, curating, and organizing content from staff, the United Way Networks and other sources on an ongoing basis, while leveraging the story bank—and content therein—as a tool for supporting content needs and strengthening the organizational narrative.

●     Strengthen United Way Northern Utah’s narrative and value proposition by serving as lead storyteller, to include producing content that can be used across multiple channels. 

 
Donor/Targeted Audience Relations
●       Create and manage branded content to build deeper relationships and generate new relationships.
●       Plan, write and contribute directly creative ideas for content marketing to drive a more community-centered content strategy to build deeper relationships and generate new relationships.
 
Advertising
●       Assist DDM in cultivating relationships with volunteers, vendors and advertising firms to leverage advertising budget to extend United Way’s reach to targeted audiences.
●       Assist DDM in designing strategic materials/communicating clear direction to vendors.
●       Assist DDM in communicating to contractors in designing advertising materials and the placement of media buys not included in advertising agreement.
●       Reviews, tracks, gathers and analyzes materials showcasing UWNU in the media and creates regular reports to evaluate the impact of stories on the organization.
 
Media Relations
●       Develop content for distributing news, press releases, talking points, and article pitches to media channels.
●       Assist in generating substantive publicity and media attention to support marketing strategies throughout the year.
●       Continuously cultivating new media relationships and growing UWNU’s network.
●       Maintain and update a media list that allows access to various audiences to be reached.
●       Assist in scheduling appearances with appropriate audiences to promote United Way’s mission. Likewise, work with print media to achieve the same.
●       Assist in managing public responses and reputation of the brand and organization.
 
Events
●       Assist Events and Donor Engagement Manager with coordinating volunteers, staff, and vendors in planning and executing events within budget (Bravo Night, Day of Caring, etc.)
●       Assist EDEM in creating event signage and materials, working with all departments, especially Resource Development.
●       Assist in fulfilling sponsorship benefits.
●       Assist with event setup and breakdown as needed.
 
Administrative Functions
●       Perform duties in accordance with United Way policies and procedures such as attending staff meetings and conferences, completing accurate and timely timesheets and expense reports.
●       Ability to manage horizontal priorities in a fast-paced environment, lead project planning, organization, monitoring and implementation, and motivate departmental teams toward project objectives.
●       Manage and submit marketing department budget reports as appropriate.
 
Other
●       Manages time and other resources in a skilled manner.
●       Able to work independently, be able to adapt to a changing environment, and balance multiple projects simultaneously.
●       Demonstrates professionalism and appropriate boundaries in all interactions.
●       Functions with creativity, independence and initiative.
●       Requires extensive period of time at a computer.
●       Ability to lift, carry, move up to 25 lbs.
●       Moderate level of physical activity during campaign season and key events.
●       Perform other work as assigned.
 
Requirements
●       Has earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications or a related field.
●       Two - five years experience in marketing, communication or public relations working with diverse populations.
●       Demonstrated excellent written/verbal communication skills, including clear, concise, and accurate written content, grammar, spelling using game-changing platforms and methods for distributing and amplifying United Way’s message.
●       Has the ability to manage multiple projects at once with varying timelines
●       Has strong collaboration and partnership skills, the ability to effectively influence stakeholders and gain consensus at all levels of the organization.
●       Demonstrated customer service, problem solving, time management, research, information management and other core organization skills.
●       Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule and adjust it as required by changing activities. Ability to travel to work in a variety of locations throughout the Northern Utah service area.
●       Proficient in Adobe Suite’s InDesign, Illustrator, Website platform Firespring, Constant Contact, Microsoft Office Suite, Asana or like applications.
 
Preferred Requirements
●       Experience in non--profit environment
●       Journalist or newsroom background
●       Spanish-speaking
 
Position Details
●       Part-time/Exempt Employee
●       Benefits (paid holidays, 403b match up to 10% of annual salary, FSA Spending Account, access to supplemental benefits with Colonial)
●       Hourly Rate: $18-$27 (depending on experience)

Physical Requirements: The employee is regularly required to communicate clearly, and exchange accurate information interpersonally or through communication devices. Must be able to learn new systems and procedures, prepare and analyze data and figures; constantly operate a computer and other standard office machinery. The position requires occasional movement throughout the office to access files, papers, or move supplies weighing up to 15lbs. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
