Minimum Qualifications
- A passion for teaching and strong understanding of at least one of the following subjects: K-12 English, literature, and/or math
- Sensitive to the different learning needs of a diverse student population
- Ability to make students feel comfortable
- Ability to follow directions, receive feedback, and work collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous online teaching or online tutoring experience
- Knowledge of current tutoring/teaching techniques
- Knowledge of the Common Core curriculum
Job Summary
The Virtual Tutor helps K-12 students get to the next level by delivering one-on-one tutoring sessions. They have access to a teacher-led certification program and develop training materials to supplement classroom lessons.
Responsibilities
- Deliver one-on-one tutoring sessions tailored to the needs of each student
- Deliver group sessions that engage learners on a specific topic
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with students
- Complete reporting of tutoring sessions and student progress
- Assist students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research, and other academic tasks
- Provide additional practice work to ensure a thorough understanding of topics covered
- Work with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom, closing learning gaps or enhancing understanding in specific subject areas
- Develop teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons
- Conduct practice tests to track progress, identify areas of improvement, and help set goals for exam preparation
- Offer feedback on progress to students and parents where appropriate
