Summer Intern Position Description
Title:          Pierce County 4-H Youth Development Summer Intern
Office Location:  Pierce Co. Courthouse Annex 432 West Main St., Ellsworth, WI
Employment Period:    Approximately May 27, 2020 to August 20, 2020
Summary of Position: The 4-H Summer Intern will increase his/her knowledge of youth development programs, community partnerships, volunteer development, UW-Extension Service and 4-H Youth Development Agent responsibilities. This summer position provides valuable pre-professional experience for educational and community based careers. The 4-H Summer Intern is supervised by the Pierce County 4-H Youth Development Agent and the Area 5 Extension Director.
Extension Office Responsibilities:
1.      Assist in the supervision and delivery of 4-H overnight camping programs.
2.      Plan, coordinate, deliver and teach educational 4-H Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Day Camps and 4-H Cloverbud Day Camps.
3.      Provide training and coordination for day camp counselors.
4.      Assist with countywide Meat Animal programs, including planning and coordinating livestock project meetings and herdsmanship judging events.
5.      Assist with the coordination and delivery of 4-H Youth Development STEM and workforce readiness summer programming.
6.      Prepare media releases related to Extension program events/activities.
7.      Be present at the Pierce County Fair and provide assistance and leadership to youth judging and scheduled events as needed.
8.      Serve as an educational resource and role model and help provide leadership and guidance for 4-H Older Member educational events and activities.
9.      Assist in Extension-based additional short term programming as opportunities arise.
10.    If 21 years and older, travel and chaperone 4-H educational trips as needed.
 
Required Knowledge & Skill Qualifications:
• Must be a post-secondary college student 18 years of age or older (Twenty-one years and older preferred).
• Positive attitude and commitment to teamwork in a collaborative environment.
• Values life-long learning and views position as a learning experience.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work well with adult volunteers and youth.
• Ability to creatively and flexibly solve problems as they arise.
• Ability to be self-directed and self-motivated.
• Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
• Evidence of effective leadership skills in school or community organizations.
• Experience in youth related outreach education preferred.
• Strong commitment to Division of Extension mission & 4-H Youth Development principles and practices.
• Experience with Microsoft Office computer software.
Compensation:   $1450/month approximate per county budget allocation. Reimbursement for official job travel will be provided according to Pierce County policy.
Condition of Hire: Per UWEX Policy, applicants will be submitted for a background screening prior to employment. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurability.
