Student Trainee (Management Assistant)

The Office of Inspector General’s (OIG) mission is to serve veterans and the public by conducting effective oversight of the programs and operations of the Department of Veterans Affairs through independent audits, inspections, and investigations.

Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Basic Qualifications: You MUST meet the definition of a STUDENT for the duration of your appointment.
The definition of a student is: an individual accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled), including awardees of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship Program under Public Law 93–842. Students need not be in actual physical attendance, so long as all other requirements are met. An individual who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half an academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this Program.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-05, you must have three years of general experience, one year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal service. General experience includes:
- Experience performing administrative or clerical support using computer software applications, automated systems and the internet. AND
- Assisting with office operations by extracting data, creating and maintaining spreadsheets or databases to input and manipulate data;
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.
OR
You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent.
