Spring Internship - Development

Departmental Overview: The Development Department oversees all philanthropy on behalf of the Museum, which includes museum membership; annual, major, and planned giving; special events, which range from exhibition opening receptions to All for the Hall fundraisers hosted by Keith Urban, Vince Gill, and Emmylou Harris; as well as foundation, corporate and government giving programs. We also steward relationships with Country Music Hall of Fame members; the broader music community; elected officials; local, state, and national arts organizations; and museum donors. We are constant advocates for the arts on local and national levels, and we publish strategic communications on the Museum’s behalf, such as the annual report. Our goal is to provide excellent stewardship to all who make gifts of time, talent and treasure to the mission in support of our mission-focused work.

Internship Overview:The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum offers unpaid internships that advance the educational goals of the student as well as the Museum’s mission. Internships are designed for a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks with consideration given to individual university requirements. Additional adjustments to the 12 week, 20 hour schedule will be at the discretion of the internship supervisor. Educational programs which operate on a quarterly basis will be accommodated. Motivated students who are seeking hands-on experiences in a team-oriented environment will find excellent opportunities at the Museum.

Specific Internship Duties:
  • Assist in the execution of internal museum events such as exhibit openings, donor events, and major fundraisers
  • Support museum membership program such as benefit fulfillment, retention, and renewal assistance
  • Research and evaluate major gifts and grants
  • Special projects including donor stewardship and VIP tours
  • Data entry and upkeep in Tessitura relationship database
  • Administrative tasks as assigned
Requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in college or recently graduated from college (within 3 months of internship start date.)
  • College degree or college courses in Business, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or a related field
  • Experience/interest in nonprofit management, fundraising, and/or museum administration is a plus
Essential Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and abilities needed for success in the position):
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to multitask and take initiative with projects
  • Microsoft Office and relationship database (Tessitura, FileMaker Pro, etc.) expertise are encouraged, but not required
Conditions of Internship:
  • Must be able to work 20-40 hours per week
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including select evenings and weekends for special events
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement
