Spring Internship - Education : Youth and Family Programs

Departmental Overview: Charged with the mission of educating varied audiences about country music, the Education Department develops programs and resources that illuminate the stories, themes, and music explored in the museum’s galleries. Serving nearly 100,000 people per year through 1,100 programs, the Education Department supports students of all ages, from school groups and families who engage in hands-on learning activities to general museum guests who experience performance presentations during their visit. A creative and curious team, education staff is composed of traditional and nontraditional educators, including classroom teachers, visual artists, historians, museum educators, and professional musicians. Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum educators share a passion for country music, popular culture, and lifelong learning and regularly collaborate to develop and implement dynamic educational offerings commensurate with one of the most-visited history museums in America.

Internship Overview:The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum offers unpaid internships that advance the educational goals of the student as well as the Museum’s mission. Internships are designed for a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks with consideration given to individual university requirements. Additional adjustments to the 12 week, 20 hour schedule will be at the discretion of the internship supervisor. Educational programs which operate on a quarterly basis will be accommodated. Motivated students who are seeking hands-on experiences in a team-oriented environment will find excellent opportunities at the museum.

The Youth and Family Programs intern assists with research, planning, execution, and evaluation of educational programs and resources for young Museum visitors and families. Youth and Family Programs at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum include art making, dance, design, music instruction, and preschool specific programs. Many of our programs take place in the Taylor Swift Education Center, with additional Community Outreach Programs taking place off site.

Specific Internship Duties:
  • Provide administrative support
  • Maintain and organizing programs, materials and supplies
  • Track evaluations, database maintenance, public space upkeep, and more
  • Assist with day-of program management and facilitation
  • Conduct research for programs or other education department projects
  • Prepare program materials, including audio, photo, and video elements
  • Maintain interactive gallery materials
  • Participate in department meetings
  • Brainstorm program ideas
  • Support Community Outreach Programs
  • Additional assignments as needed
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in college or university, with course work in a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience or course work in education, history, and/or the fine arts
Essential Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and abilities needed for success in the position):
  • Experience working with children and/or teaching
  • Ability to multi task and problem solve
  • Upbeat and energetic
Conditions of Internship:
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends
  • Must pass a background check
  • Lift 25 lbs or less
