Our Creative department is comprised of our video, graphics, photography, content and social media teams who produce all HSUS branding and communications across social media, magazines, event collateral, advertising and sites. The Editorial team has an opportunity for an intern.
 
The editorial intern (click to view expanded position description) will learn about the Creative department and gain practical experience and knowledge by working with our Editorial team.
 
Editorial interns will be able to learn the ins and outs of producing magazines, and develop writing and reporting skills across print and digital platforms. Interns will also foster a holistic understanding of animal protection issues.
 
Some responsibilities include:
  • Research, write and shepherd through approval process short-form web stories for animalsheltering.org and potentially humanesociety.org and our print magazines (Animal Sheltering and All Animals)
  • Choose and upload archived Animal Sheltering articles
  • Read and appropriately tag/untag Animal Sheltering articles
  • Brainstorm and potentially implement SEO, social media engagement and magazine promotion strategies
  • Attend weekly Magazine, Animal Sheltering and Companion Animals meetings, educational presentations, and other meetings as scheduled
 
Please apply if you meet the following requirements:
  • Must have a B.A. degree or be enrolled in a B.A. program
  • Strong writing skills and editorial judgment; strong desire to develop those skills
  • Experience with content management systems and/or blogging platforms
  • Interest in social media engagement techniques and experience with social media platforms (i.e., Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)
  • Attentive to detail with a commitment to accuracy
Intern is expected to commit to approximately 15 hours per week for 8-12 weeks.
 
This internship offers a daily commuting stipend of $10.00 for each day the intern commutes to the office.
 
Intern must pass a criminal background check and sign a waiver and release of liability. The position is located in our Gaithersburg, Md., office.
