Summer Internship - Medical/Distribution Contracting


Summary:

Throughout your ten week internship, you will develop strategies and tools using our industry-leading data resources to increase healthcare providers’ spend through Vizient contracts, ensure our suppliers accurately pay administrative fees per the terms of our agreements, and develop supplier scorecards to guide our relationships.

What we will do:

  • First, we will give you a crash course in the healthcare industry that will provide you with a unique perspective of the GPO, the provider, and the supplier. You will receive the tools and training necessary for you to succeed in our internship program as well as skills and industry knowledge that will help you further your career inside or outside of healthcare.
  • Second, we will support your development by assigning you to work with a Senior Portfolio Executive that will sponsor your project, clear roadblocks, and help you navigate our organization's cross-functional teams.  
  • Finally, we will assign you a project that will challenge your intellectual and analytical skills. Vizient's contracts with suppliers and distributors require them to provide us with sales reports that show us the purchase volumes of our members. You will use this data to identify areas for growth, validate the suppliers' compliance with our contracts, and monitor distributors' private brand sales vs. our contracted suppliers' sales.

 What you will do:

  •  Understand the connections between healthcare suppliers and distributors.
  • Understand the data that suppliers and distributors provide to Vizient.
  • Learn how to utilize sourcing analytical tools
  • Leverage the data to develop strategies and tools that will help us increase provider utilization of Vizient's contracts, ensure our suppliers' compliance with our contracts, and monitor distributors’ sales of their own private label products vs. those of our contracted suppliers.
  • Develop presentations, to participate in meetings with senior leaders, and operate with a high level of autonomy.

What you will need:

  • By program start, Applicants must have completed their junior year as an undergraduate, or the summer before graduation for graduate level.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree or graduate degree in healthcare, finance, or supply chain.
  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting across the team and potentially with clients, members, and suppliers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be available to work consistently for the 10-week program.

Key 2019 Program Information:

The program requires a full ten week commitment by the intern to participate in all developmental experiences including formal training, mentoring, on-the-job learning, and opportunities to interact with senior leaders. The Intern group also organizes a summer community service project and has teambuilding activities outside of work.

 

Program starts June 3 and ends August 9.

40hrs per week and pay is $24 per hour.
