Women's Human Rights Internship

Location: Twin Cities Metro  Salary: Unpaid  Type: Internship 

We welcome all students and recent graduates, and especially encourage graduate and law school students, to assist with research and writing website content. Past and current interns have researched women's human rights issues for use in our website and assisted with administration of projects working to support women's human rights.

Intern duties may include:
  • Researching international human rights instruments and country laws on violence against women.
  • Creating original work on aspects of violence against women for website use.
  • Assisting staff with maintaining current information on www.stopvaw.org.
  • Assisting staff in preparation for human rights monitoring missions.
  • Assisting staff with all aspects of work at a small non-profit, including administrative tasks from time to time.

Desired qualifications/experience/interests:
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong legal research skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Sensitivity to diverse cultures
  • Fluency in English
  • Strong English writing skills
  • Proficiency in a second language a plus

Time commitment:
  • For fall and spring internship: 8-15 hours per week for a total of 3-4 months
  • For summer internship: 20-40 hours per week for a total of 8-10 weeks
  • For a fellowship or special project: varies


Application Deadlines:
Internships roughly correspond to the academic calendar. Interns and supervisors will arrange exact start/end dates.
Fall - September to December. Applications reviewed August 1-September 15 or until filled.
Winter/J-Term - mid-December to January. Applications reviewed November 1-December 15 or until filled.
Spring - January to May. Applications reviewed December 1-January 15 or until filled.
Summer - May to September. Applications reviewed March 1-April 15 or until filled.
