Career Coaching Program Application - Fall 2018

APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO SUNDAY, MARCH 25 AT 11:59 P.M.

Since 2001, over 350 students have participated in the Career Coaching Program. Students are matched with successful alumni and friends of the University who share the secrets of their success and provide professional development coaching. Past participants have started and built careers at places like Accenture, Deloitte, General Electric, Google, The Four Seasons Hotel, Tiffany & Co., Teach for America, Make a Wish Foundation and many more.

Students receive extensive materials covering topics such as resumes and cover letters, internship and job search, interviewing and attire, business etiquette, networking, and career advancement. Group discussions, team conversations, and one-on-one coaching empower students to take ownership of their career aspirations and grow in confidence that yields success.

The program considers students of all majors and career ambition. Only students who will be JUNIORS OR SENIORS as of Fall 2018 are eligible to apply.

**Directions to apply:

Upload your "resume," which includes the following information:
1. Description of your educational experience
2. Present and past employment, including internships
3. Student organization memberships and volunteer work
4. Academic awards and scholarships

Please answer the following questions and upload your document as "Other Document."

Please limit your responses to 250 words or less for each essay.
1. Briefly describe what you hope to gain from participating in the Career Coaching Program.
2. Imagine yourself at the height of your career. You have been asked to be a keynote speaker at your Pepperdine Class Reunion. The Reunion Committee has asked you to provide a career biography describing your career path. Please include this bio as part of your application.

Have (2) Pepperdine faculty or staff members complete a recommendation on your behalf. Please have these individuals fill out the recommendation form here:


Structure & Time Commitment:

Kick-Off Weekend
Held in September over a Friday evening, 5 - 9 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
You will be introduced to your Career Coach, the program, and the other student participants. Special attention will be spent on exploring and setting your personal and professional goals. You will also enjoy an Etiquette Lunch and learn about the MBTI Career Assessment. All meals will be provided. Attendance is mandatory.

General Sessions
Held approximately every 2-3 weeks on Tuesday evenings, 7 - 9 p.m., from September to November.
All coaches and all student participants join together to address key topics in your career development, such as Interviewing, Personal Brand, Office Etiquette, and Career Advancement. Here, you will have the opportunity to get to know all the Career Coaches. Snacks will be provided. Full attendance is mandatory.

Final Banquet
Held in late November/early December on a Tuesday evening, 7 - 9 p.m.
Coaches, student participants, and program alumni enjoy a formal evening of dinner and programming. Students & coaches share their experiences and students receive their program completion certificates. Attendance is mandatory.

Student-Coach Outside Time
Between each General Session, there is an additional required contact between students and their coach. To best accommodate your schedule, these interactions can be through email, telephone contact, or face-to-face interaction and are arranged independently between the participant and their coach. This may take place as a tour of your coach's workplace, dinner at their home, coffee at Starbucks, or over lunch!

**Please note that in order to complete your application, your resume must be approved in Handshake prior to applying. The Career Center approves documents Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. As long as your required documents are uploaded and pending approval by the deadline, your application will be considered on time.
