Public Relations & Communications Intern

The Ramos Research Institute (RRI) is a youth-led, nonpartisan think tank dedicated to advancing civic learning, strengthening democratic culture, and producing actionable research that informs institutions, policymakers, and communities. Founded at Cornell University, RRI operates at the intersection of scholarship and practice—training emerging researchers and communicators to engage meaningfully in public life.

Position Overview
RRI is seeking a Public Relations & Communications Intern to support both external and internal communications. Working alongside the Strategic Communications & Public Engagement Associate and the Executive Director, the intern will help draft public-facing content, shape the Institute’s brand, and assist with executive communications.

This role is ideal for a communications, journalism, or marketing student who is a strong writer, creative thinker, and eager to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit and policy communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and edit press releases, newsletters, social media posts, and website content to advance RRI’s mission and highlight ongoing projects.
  • Assist in maintaining consistent tone and messaging across all platforms.
  • Support internal communications by drafting memos, statements, and updates for the Executive Director.
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Communications & Public Engagement Associate on campaign strategy, media outreach, and digital branding.
  • Contribute to the creative direction of visual materials and content strategy (knowledge of Canva or Adobe tools a plus).
  • Track engagement metrics and identify opportunities for improved outreach and brand visibility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior student majoring in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with attention to tone, clarity, and professionalism.
  • Understanding of digital communications and social media strategy.
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Interest in civic engagement, public policy, and nonprofit communications.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to meet deadlines in a remote environment.
