Purpose of Position:


The Office of Student Success and Career Advancement (SSCA) drives initiatives and experiences designed to strengthen academics, develop leadership skills, expand networks, and chart career paths for Pepperdine Graziadio Business School (PGBS) students. The office focuses on supporting all PGBS students, including students from full-time programs, part-time programs, executive programs, and online programs:


As an integral member of the SSCA team, the Graduate Assistant works both independently and collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, and other School/University departments in service of the Graziadio School and the Pepperdine University mission.


Scheduling will be 15 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Will work with student to adjust schedule based on academic needs. 


Job Duties: 


Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Student Engagement and Success, the Graduate Assistant will support the Office of Student Success and Career Advancement in the planning and facilitation of PGBS student clubs and organizations, the full-time new student orientation, student life communication, academic support services, career services, and student events. This position aligns work with department goals and initiatives, employing strategic thinking and project management skills to further student success. The position works independently and in collaboration with departmental staff to increase student engagement for departmental initiatives for a diverse population of graduate business students. To ensure success in the position, initial and ongoing training and professional development are provided.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide student club administration support through cleaning, reviewing, and interpreting data to present findings to departmental staff, editing events, and reviewing requests in the Graziadio Student Hub.
  • Serve as a point of contact for student clubs to answer student questions and develop training documents and instructional videos for student club processes.
  • Manages projects related to the Virtual Career Center content by sourcing and uploading events, editing webpages, researching relevant content, and organizing key information.
  • Assist Student Success and Career Advancement with event coordination, full-time new student orientation coordination, maintaining inventory of SCAA event equipment, and on-site event support.
  • Develop marketing campaigns to engage students in Student Success and Career Advancement initiatives, and conduct research related to graduate student trends and best practices.
  • Provide departmental administrative support and staff presence for answering student questions in the office, responding to the departmental email inbox, phone, etc.
  • Strategically market and advertise Student Success and Career Advancement events and initiatives via The Graziadio Student Hub, the Pepperdine events calendar, department calendar, tabling, and occasional newsletters.
  • Attend all trainings and meetings as directed by the supervisor.


Qualifications


Required qualifications in relation to this position include the following:

  • Graduate student.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must work well independently as well as in a collaborative, team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Enthusiasm and aptitude for working with diverse and international student populations. Ability to adapt approaches to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Ability to employ strategic thinking, aligning work with department goals and initiatives.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and resources to complete complex projects.
  • Ability to conduct research on best practices related to student engagement, to interpret data collected by the department, and to present findings in an appropriate manner.
  • Previous or current experience working with events preferred.
  • Knowledge of Pepperdine resources preferred; ability to make appropriate referrals to other University or external services and resources.


Preferred qualifications in relation to this position include the following:

  • Federal Work-Study is preferred. Please note, this position is on-ground in Malibu (Drescher campus)


Pay Rate: $20.14 - $20.83/ per hour
