Business Development Representative (Tech Startup)

Most internships don’t generate real revenue. This one does.

You won’t be sitting in meetings or doing internal work.

You’ll be building a territory, bringing on real customers, and getting paid based on the revenue you create.

The Role

As a Business Development Representative (BDR) Intern, you’ll own pro acquisition for a specific geographic territory.

Your job is simple:

Find the right pros. Get them on the platform. Build your market.

Once they start buying leads, you earn recurring commission.

This is not passive marketing. 

What You’ll Do

  • Own a dedicated territory (major metro or state)
  • Become the local expert on your market’s home service landscape
  • Identify top-performing pros across:
    • Google Local Service Ads
    • Yelp, Angi, Thumbtack, HomeAdvisor
    • Houzz, Facebook, Instagram
    • Local directories, BBB, Nextdoor
  • Prioritize high-spend pros already buying leads
  • Identify the most influential contractor in each trade and bring them on first
  • Join and monitor local contractor communities (Facebook groups, associations, etc.)
  • Execute high-volume, targeted outreach daily (typically 40–60 prospects)
  • Manage a live pipeline of 50+ prospects
  • Track competitor activity and pricing in your market
  • Identify high-demand trades and opportunities
  • Drive referrals and word-of-mouth within your territory
  • Submit a weekly territory report directly to the founder

How You’ll Earn

This is not a token internship bonus.

This is a real commission structure tied to real revenue.

You earn:

10% of everything a pro spends — every month — for 6 months.

You connect them once.
They pay monthly.
You earn monthly.

Revenue Streams

1. Lead Packages
Pros spend $250–$5,000+/month
(roofing, solar, remodeling at the high end)
→ You earn 10%

2. Website Creation
$100/month → $30,000+ projects
→ You earn 10%

3. Software & Tools
$80–$1,000+/month
→ You earn 10%

What This Actually Looks Like

Scenario 1 — Solid Performer

30 pros/month × $500 avg spend:

Month 1: $1,500
Month 3: $4,500

Total (6 months): $22,500+ 

Scenario 2 — Top Performer

50 pros/month × $1,000 avg spend:

Month 1: $5,000
Month 3: $15,000

Total (6 months): $75K+

Note: Most interns will fall somewhere below this range depending on execution.
