UI/UX Intern Job Description

Job Summary 

As a UI/UX Intern at Thaddeus Resource Center, you’ll help elevate the digital experience for the communities we serve by bringing thoughtful, user-centered design to life. This role offers the opportunity to apply your design expertise in a collaborative environment, helping improve user interactions and accessibility. You'll work alongside a passionate tech team that values creativity, integrity, and innovation.  

The UI/UX Intern will receive direct supervision from the Scrum Master and Tech Department Supervisor and will get the chance to work in a self-organized team setting in the Tech Department.  

This internship is unpaid, but eligible for academic or course credit if approved by your educational institution.  

  • Internships are yearlong appointments.  
  • The intern is expected to work approximately 15 hours a week.   
  • Attendance is required at a 2-hour long All Staff Meeting on Tuesdays at 10:00 AM PST and a 2-hour long department meeting on Thursdays at 10:00 AM PST. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties 

Design and Development 50% 

  • Design and develop user interface and user experience concepts for our digital platforms. 
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs using tools like Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, or similar. 
  • Collaborate with the tech team to ensure seamless implementation of designs.   
  • Develop and maintain our design system and style guide.    

UI/UX Research 45% 

  • Conduct user research and analyze user feedback to inform design decisions.   
  • Stay up to date with the latest design trends and best practices. 

Other duties as assigned 5%  

 

Qualifications 

Required:    

  1. Commitment to supporting and respecting Thaddeus’ Christian mission, values, and faith‑centered environment. 
  2. Active enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program pursuing a degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Computer Science, Psychology, or a related field (Senior or Graduate level) OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience  
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills  
  4. Demonstrated confidentiality, dependability, and enthusiasm  
  5. Ability and desire to learn new skills quickly  
  6. Ability to analyze and understand disparate pieces of information from a variety of sources   
  7. Excellent time management  
  8. Demonstrated experience in working successfully with teams   
  9. Ability to work independently with little instruction and a strong attention to detail   
  10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)   
  11. Access to appropriate technology, internet connection and ability to function in a virtual capacity via Microsoft Teams   

Preferred:    

  1. Previous UI/UX experience. 
  2. Proficiency with tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD. 
  3. Skills in user research, usability testing, and visual design principles. 

 

Work Environment 

All activities for the Intern use remote access using Microsoft Teams. Interns are required to have a computer compatible with this software. Thaddeus makes every effort to hold interactive group meetings to foster communication and teamwork using remote workspaces.   

 

Learning Objectives 

  1. The Intern will gain hands-on experience using Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, and similar software for refining and improving user experience. 
  2. The Intern will learn about current trends and best practices for optimizing user experience and incorporating user feedback into designs. 
  3. The Intern will be guided by department leaders and fellow team members to optimally integrate into the Thaddeus tech team and meaningfully contribute to workflows. 
  4. The Intern will gain experience in functioning as part of a team while 100% remote, using connectivity software and a variety of meeting software tools.
